| Uploaded: 05 October 2004 Tory conference 2004.I note that yesterday Michael Howard was talking about tax cuts and today he's talking about making a 'War on Crime'. When is he, or any of the Whitehall gang, going to learn? It's a tired, oft repeated, soliloquy he's making, but it isn't so much that he's talking to himself; he might have said something of substance, he might even have had something to say, but the punters are not listening. Poor old Michael, he's a dinosaur, he's long past his extinction date, but no one has told him. What would be the point, he wouldn't listen anyway? The Tories might struggle in fourth on this kind of platform, but it will not be because the nation values him or his party as the fourth best, it's that the options are just so crap and too many people now know that national politics and politicians are corrupt and talk shite. I am sorry there just is no longer any way to be, or point in being, polite. Michael, you are a rich man doing a rich mans' job, and you will do it no matter what the rest of the us think, because you have no idea how the other half (you know the 95% of us who aren't privileged, aren't wealthy and never will be and have had a crap education, can't afford a private pension plan or private health care, and do not get ferried around in a limousine) live. Howard promises a war on crime. Addendum: Regarding Europe. Mr. Howard blames Europe for "damaged people's faith in politics". Wrong again Mr. Howard, it was our own politicians who took us in there, and to blame Europe is to shut the stable door long after the horse has bolted.
